You'll have to write code either way to get easy syncing on the mobile device at least, but I don't think that would be difficult. This is because the kindle firmware isn't, to my knowledge, very open in fact, just getting the kindle SDK requires appealing to Amazon itself (and I haven't heard back from them in over a year.).
